Costume session - Belly dancer - Conté crayons
Towards the end of the session, I started getting the hang of drawing the costume. I'm happy enough with the brown one. There's a Toulouse-Lautrec feeling to it that is kinda interesting.

Costume session - Belly dancer - Pencil
I very rarely use pencil for drawing of this kind, but it somehow suited this model. I find pencil quite slow to draw with, but these rough, scratchy pieces make me want to try pencil a bit more. Watch this space ;)

Costume session - Belly dancer - 2 min poses Charcoal
The session started with a good few short poses. I struggled a bit with the detailed costume with charcoal, so I moved on to pencil after just a few.

Drawing from sample, head in hands gesture
Drawing from sample.
I decided to leave this one 'unfinished looking' as I liked the contrast between the line and tone.
Lots of work to do to improve my portrait skills, but there's something about the composition that I like here.

Paper-cut Christmas cards
I spent my Sunday paper-cutting some Christmas cards and in the process gained a lot of respect for the likes of my friend Damien Martin!
This technique is rewarding, but the process can be quite tricky.
The designs are based on some found Christmas images that I played around with.
Happy Christmas :)

The Teddy Bear Project
Christmas is upon us! And so...
'The Teddy Bear Project' is back!
Does your little one have a favourite teddy bear or toy? Well, I am offering to create their portrait!*
It was an idea I had last Christmas for my niece and she loved it! I recreated her "Doudou" as a cartoon character and she is proud to have him framed on the wall of her bedroom. It is also a nice keep-sake for the parents as teddy bears can become a very important part of the family!
How does it work?
To create a personalized Teddy Bear character portrait - simply send a photo of teddy (where I can see as much detail as possible) and tell me if you have any specific 'look' you would like - ie referencing a particular cartoon or illustrative style (eg. Babar, Sponge-bob, etc.!)
Portraits supplied as: Digital file via email for you to print at home.

More drawing from samples
Continuing to experiment with textures based on sample drawings. This one is on an A3, I might try it again on a larger scale to get more definition and expression.

Practice drawings from samples
Here are some pieces that I produced based on sample drawings. My usual drawing session is taking a break this week, so I'm taking time to explore techniques at home.
